One of our portfolio companies, Brompton Technology, has been recognised with a King’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category, among the most prestigious honours for UK businesses.
The King’s Awards for Enterprise are the UK government’s highest official awards for British businesses, celebrating outstanding achievement in the fields of innovation, international trade, sustainable development and promoting opportunity through social mobility. Now in their 59th year, these awards are a mark of excellence and are widely regarded as the most respected business accolades in the country.
The award recognises Brompton’s outstanding innovation, specifically its development of the Tessera SX40, a cutting-edge LED video processor that has redefined performance standards and enabled major advancements in virtual production for film, television and live events.
Connection Capital's clients completed a £5.1 million Growth Capital investment into Brompton in July 2022. Brompton is a world-leading, Emmy Award-winning technology company focused on high-end processing products for LED video walls, serving the Virtual Production and Live Events markets.
Founded in 2011, Brompton has grown into a global leader in LED video processing, employing 79 people across its London headquarters and international offices. Its technology supports major live tours for artists such as Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, and features in productions including Barbie, The Mandalorian and House of the Dragon. The company previously received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade in 2020 and was named Manufacturer of the Year by AV Magazine in 2023.
The Tessera SX40 is a standout innovation, supporting 4K workflows, using a 10G fibre-based data distribution system and incorporating advanced features such as Dynamic Calibration, ShutterSync®, Extended Bit Depth, 3D LUT import and Frame Remapping. These capabilities are delivered through ongoing software updates rather than hardware replacements, preserving customer investment while ensuring long-term product evolution. This sustainable approach reflects Brompton’s commitment to technical excellence and environmental responsibility.
Brompton’s technology has also transformed virtual production workflows by enabling realistic digital environments in controlled studio settings. This has reduced the environmental and logistical challenges of traditional on-location filming and helped drive efficiency and creativity in content production globally.
“We are incredibly proud to receive a King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation, following our Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade in 2020,” says Richard Mead, CEO of Brompton Technology. “This recognition is a testament to the ingenuity and hard work of our team and the amazing success of the Tessera SX40, which has also been recognised with other major awards including an Emmy from the Television Academy based in Los Angeles. Brompton continues to focus on innovation to meet the needs of our customers and delivering quality and reliability, backed up by 24/7 technical support.”
The King’s Awards for Enterprise, previously known as The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, were renamed in 2023 to reflect His Majesty The King’s desire to continue the legacy of HM Queen Elizabeth II by recognising outstanding UK businesses.
